One child killed, others seriously injured in Kaufman County go-kart crash
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatality accident involving an SUV and a go-kart vehicle that occurred around 12:30PM today (Saturday) at a rural Kaufman County intersection.
The Kaufman Fire Department, CareFlite EMS, and several other emergency responders were called to the scene of a crash at the intersection of FM 2727 and County Road 167 northeast of Kaufman. An SUV collided with a go-kart, ridden by several children.
Officials say there were six children riding on the go-kart vehicle at the time of the crash. Life-saving measures were administered on one of the children, but the injuries were too severe. One child was pronounced deceased at the scene and others were transported by helicopters or ambulances to trauma centers.
A release from the College Mound Fire Department indicates all children were between the ages of 7 to 12. Three of them were airlifted from the scene to a children’s hospital in Dallas.
Traffic investigators say the go-kart was driving on County Road 167 when it entered FM 2727 and was subsequently hit by the SUV. The driver of the SUV was not seriously injured.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
