Armed man fleeing police shot, killed after pointing weapon at pursuing Lake Worth officers
The Lake Worth Police Department and Fort Worth Police Department are both investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred overnight in the 3400 block of Horne Street.
Just after 2:00am this morning, a Lake Worth officer attempted to pull over a vehicle for speeding on West Loop 820. When the officer initiated his emergency lights, the vehicle sped off and led police on a chase through Lake Worth, White Settlement, and Fort Worth.
Officers ran the license plate and received information that the occupants may be armed and dangerous.
The suspect exited off Interstate 30 at Horne Street and crashed the vehicle, temporarily disabling it, but continuing on Horne Street.
Eventually the vehicle came to a spot and three suspects ran out. One of the passengers brandished a firearm and pointed it at one of the pursuing officers, causing the officer to fire at least one shot.
Officers and paramedics rendered aid to the suspect at the scene. MedStar transported him to JPS Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as an 18-year-old male from Fort Worth.
No officers were hurt.
“There is a lot of video from this scene,” said the Lake Worth PD. All video will be released at an appropriate time and will back up police account of the incident.
Both the Lake Worth PD and Fort Worth PD are investigating this incident.
