16-year-old shot near Arlington’s Sam Houston High School

The Arlington Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred just off the campus of Sam Houston High School this afternoon.

At around 1:12pm, Arlington police responded to a shooting near the intersection of Sam Houston Drive and Sherry Street in east Arlington. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle with a bullet hole in it, but no one around.

A short time later, a 16-year-old showed up at Arlington Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound. Authorities say the wound is non-life-threatening. He is expected to recover.

Police say he is a student at Sam Houston High School.

Investigators are still piecing together what happened.

Adams Elementary, Atherton Elementary, and Sam Houston High School were all on lockdown during the initial phase of the incident.
