Juvenile arrested for killing man near SMU

The University Park Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred in their city last night (Tuesday) near Snider Plaza just west of the Southern Methodist University campus.

At around 7:00pm Tuesday, a 9-1-1 caller reported to University Park Police that someone had been shot near the Shell gas station on Lovers Lane west of Hillcrest Avenue. At least one bystander and UPPD officer performed CPR on the victim prior to paramedic arrival.

University Park FD paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as a 39-year-old man.

Police tracked down and arrested a juvenile individual who they say is responsible for the crime.

Detectives are still investigating a motive behind the homicide. Witnesses reported the victim was pushed out of the truck immediately after the gunshots, so it may have been a carjacking.

The investigation is ongoing.
