Medal of Honor Motorcade – DFW Airport to Gainesville

If you are driving through North Texas this afternoon you will have the opportunity to see something very special. A several mile long escort by North Texas Police Officers, Firefighters, and volunteer groups such as the Patriot Guard Riders and the Blue Knights Motor Cycle Club making the annual trek to Gainesville with some very special Heroes – “Medal of Honor” recipients. The Medal of Honor Recipients are flying into DFW Airport today and will spend an entire weekend in the Host City Program of Gainesville being celebrated and honored for their service.

As usual, there will be a motorcade of public safety vehicles honoring and escorting these National Heroes all the way to their destination in Gainesville. This year will be exceptional with a historic number of public safety agencies participating in the motorcade.

Current estimates are expecting the motorcade to stretch 7-8 miles long with well over 400 vehicles participating. At this time we are expecting the motorcade to leave the DFW Airport between 3:00 pm – 4:00pm.

“The motorcade is a great expression of gratitude to these living Heroes and our public safety agencies are proud to be participating,” stated Deputy Constable King who coordinates the escort.

With such a significant number of participants, citizens traveling along this motorcade route need to be aware of traffic delays that will occur during this short time span. Public safety agencies are requesting that citizens be aware of the motorcade and pull to the right lanes when approached from behind.

Additionally, some parts of Hwy 114, 121 and many access points will be temporarily shut down as agencies work to get the motorcade onto the roadway and these honored guests to DFW on their way.

We are requesting that all media please assist this public safety effort by making notifications to your audience about this historic event. The Host City Program of Gainesville is reporting a record number of 14 recipients attending this year.

Southlake Police and Fire will fly a giant American Flag from two ladder trucks stationed on the Carroll Ave. Bridge as the motorcade travels down Highway 114 between 3:00 and 4:00pm this afternoon. We hope that everyone who has a chance to stop and salute these heroes will take the time to do so.
