Often when a firefighter dies in the line of duty (LODD), his or her remains must go to the medical examiner’s (ME) office. Travel to and from that office is with an escort of firefighters and law enforcement officers. While on site at the …ME’s office a firefighter with the Honor Guard will stand watch. [The Texas Line of Duty Death Task Force has its own Honor Guard]. The vehicle escort will accompany the deceased firefighter to the funeral home. The body is never left unguarded.
