Officer Involved Shooting (Grand Prairie)
Info from Grand Prairie Police: At about 6:20 p.m., a Grand Prairie Police Officer working an off duty assignment near the 1800 block of Southeast 14th was notified of a disturbance involving people fighting with weapons. The officer found the men fighting and ordered them to drop their weapons. Two individuals with poles dropped the weapons but one suspect with a large rock, refused and aggressively moved towards the officer. The officer retreated to the rear of his patrol car while giving numerous commands for the suspect to drop the rock. The suspect raised the rock to strike the officer and the officer fired his weapon to prevent the suspect from striking him.
The investigation revealed that the suspect had assaulted a female with the large rock prior to the officers arrival. Witnesses also stated passing motorists attempted to stop the suspect from continued assaults on the female.
The first responding officers immediately began to treat the suspects injuries by applying a tourniquet to his leg, most likely saving the suspects life.
The suspect, a Hispanic male in his 30’s, was transported to a local hospital where he is expected to recover.
