Officer Involved Shooting (Irving)
The Irving Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at approximately 6:18am in the 1400 block of S. Story Road. Officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance after the female victim called 911 to report that the male suspect was trying to kill her with a knife. The suspect had cut the victim and barricaded them both in an upstairs bedroom. When officers arrived on scene they heard screaming from inside the home and forced open an exterior door. Once inside, officers then had to force open a bedroom door and found the suspect holding the victim at knifepoint. The suspect refused to comply with commands to drop two large knifes and release the victim. A less-than-lethal use of force was not effective. Due to the victim and officers being in imminent danger of being seriously injured or killed, one officer discharged his duty weapon striking the suspect. The victim was transported to Parkland Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was also transported to Parkland Hospital but was pronounced deceased at approximately 7:15am. The officers involved in the situation were not injured.
