ATHENS, TX: Child dead after train crashes into school bus

Multiple emergency responders are investigating a major accident involving a train and a school bus in the town of Athens, Texas, about an hour and a half southeast of Dallas.

The Athens ISD has confirmed one child, a middle school aged student, has died from injuries sustained in the crash. Another child was airlifted to Children’s Medical Center Dallas in unknown condition. The bus driver was also transported from the scene. No other students were on the bus.

“We ask that you join with us in humbly praying for their families,” ISD officials released on social media following the crash.

Athens, Texas is a town in Henderson County approximately 80 miles southeast of Dallas. We do not cover this area, but thought it was important to share the news.
