‘Slow Down Move Over’ convoy brings awareness to emergency responder safety
The ‘Slow Down Move Over’ convoy is taking place this afternoon to bring awareness to emergency responder safety.
A convoy of 75+ emergency vehicles and tow trucks are traveling across portions of Arlington, Fort Worth, and the Mid-Cities. The route begins on eastbound I20 from Park Springs, northbound 360, westbound 183/121, southbound E Loop 820, and back to I20 and Park Springs.
The campaign hopes to bring awareness to the Slow Down or Move Over law. The law requires drivers to move over a lane in the event that an emergency vehicle or tow truck with emergency lights is stopped on the side of the road.
Texas law states that drivers must vacate the lane closest to the applicable vehicles stopped on the side of the road. If you cannot make a safe lane change, you must slow down to at least 20MPH below the posted speed limit before passing the emergency vehicles.
Highways are some of the most dangerous places for Fire/EMS, Police, tow truck operators, and emergency workers. Pay attention while driving and don’t forget to SLOW DOWN or MOVE OVER!
