DWI suspect bites off a portion of a Denton officer’s ear during scuffle

On Friday night, Denton police officers pulled over a driver for failing to maintain a lane. The driver stopped along the shoulder of I35E.

During the traffic stop, officers attempted to conduct a Driving While Intoxicated investigation, but the suspect, a 45-year-ole male pictured below, refused to exit the vehicle.

As officers attempted to remove him from the vehicle, he punched one of them in the face. Another officer and sergeant attempted to handcuff the suspect, and a scuffle ensued.

During the scuffle, the suspect bit off a portion of the sergeant’s ear. A taser was deployed and the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect was transported to the hospital and in the process also assaulted a paramedic. He has been charged with three counts of assault on a public servant (one aggravated), resisting arrest, and driving while intoxicated.

The sergeant is recovering and in good spirits.
