14-year-old Carrollton middle schooler arrested and charged for fake social media threat
The Carrollton Police Department has arrested a 14-year-old Creek Valley Middle School student after a fake social media post prompted the school to take increased security measures earlier this week.
The student posted on the Ring Neighbors social media platform Monday, warning that a gunman was near the school and threatening to shoot anyone in sight.
After learning of the post and at the advice of the Carrollton PD, the school took extra security measures by keeping students and faculty inside the building while the threat was investigated. According to police, the post was quickly deemed to be a hoax, and the student was arrested.
Police have charged the student with False Alarm or Report, a state jail felony.
