Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests 280 illegal workers at Allen telecom company

Law enforcement officials with the Immigration & Customs Enforcement, also known as ‘ICE’, and its Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) unit arrested 280 people who were unlawfully working at an Allen telecommunications company yesterday.

According to a press release issued by ICE, search warrants were obtained for CVE Technology Group, Inc. and four of CVE’s staffing companies as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into illegal workers.

The Homeland Security Investigations unit received multiple tips indicating the company was knowingly hiring illegal workers at the companies, and using fraudulent identification documents. In January of this year, HSI began auditing the company’s I-9 forms, which are used to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the Unites States. Numerous irregularities were discovered.

All of the illegal workers who were arrested yesterday will be interviewed to record any medical, sole-caregiver, or other humanitarian situations. After these interviews, ICE will determine whether there are workers who need to be released for humanitarian reasons. In all cases, each illegal worker will be documented and processed for removal from the country.

This situation prompted quite a heavy response from law enforcement yesterday afternoon. Unmarked police vehicles, vans, and at least two charter buses were seen at the business.
