UPDATE: Police say speed believed to be a factor in early morning crash that killed 3 people

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office has released additional information regarding the major accident earlier this morning on eastbound I30 near Ferguson Road.

Dallas Sheriffs deputies and Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel responded to the scene around 2:15am. Upon arrival, a vehicle was on fire and an 18 wheeler was on its side.

Deputies believe the vehicle was speeding and lost control, striking the center median and crashing into the 18 wheeler near the fuel tank. The crash caused gasoline from the tank to spill onto the vehicle. As a result of the impact, the 18 wheeler lost control and struck the barricade, overturned, and landed on its side. The vehicle, after striking the 18 wheeler, hit the median and came to rest several hundred feet from the 18 wheeler. The vehicle caught fire with three (3) people inside.

Inside the vehicle were three (3) people believed to be two (2) white or Hispanic males and one (1) white or Hispanic female. The ages are unknown at this time. All three were declared deceased at the scene.

The 18 wheeler driver and passenger received minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
