Grand Prairie police shoot, killed armed suspect following police chase
A driver was shot and killed yesterday evening after evading arrest and pointing a gun at officers.
On Thursday at approximately 10:42pm in the evening, Grand Prairie Police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an observed traffic violation. The vehicle immediately fled and led officers on a pursuit that ended in Cedar Hill at the intersection of Highway 67 and Belt Line Road.
After a brief standoff, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle displayed a handgun in a threatening manner, placing officers in fear for their lives. At this time, a Grand Prairie police officer fired a duty weapon, striking the suspect. Cedar Hill EMS responded to the scene and pronounced the suspect deceased on the scene.
No officers were injured during this incident.
The identity is pending next of kin notification.
As policy, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation Team responded to the scene and will be handling the investigation.
