Arlington PD bicycle officer struck and injured by hit-and-run driver

An Arlington Police Officer is recovering this evening after being struck by a vehicle.

Officials say the uniformed officer was working an approved, off-duty assignment for AT&T Stadium. At around 12:45am overnight Sunday, the officer and another bicycle officer were dispatched to a “request for assistance” in the 800 block of N. Collin Street. They responded on their bicycles which are marked and distinguishable with lights for night use.

As the officers were traveling across Collins Street westbound near Rogers Street, one of the officers, located on the northbound inside lane of the road, was struck by a dark colored or black SUV. The impact caused the bicycle officer to be ejected from the bike and land on the street. He was transported to MCA with undisclosed injuries, but released about three hours later.

APD says the driver of the SUV did not stop and render aid. The vehicle continued northbound on Collins Street. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility of a second car traveling in close proximity to the suspect car.
