UPDATE: One dead, several injured in crane collapse near downtown Dallas

An official with the Dallas Fire-Rescue says one person has died and several others have been injured after a crane fell onto a multi-story apartment building near downtown Dallas.

Multiple DFR and DPD units responded to the scene near the 2600 block of Live Oak Street regarding a fallen crane. The crane crashed into an apartment building and attached parking garage, causing a significant structural collapse.

Multiple agencies responded with personnel and search and rescue dogs. Dallas’ Urban Search and Rescue team is on scene as well as multiple command officers.

A Mass Casualty Incident was declared, prompting many ambulances to the scene. One person has died and at least six others have been injured, some seriously.

At the time of the collapse, a severe thunderstorm with strong winds was blowing through the area.
