UPDATE: Fort Worth Police shoot and kill suspect after chase
The Fort Worth Police Department has released information regarding yesterday’s officer involved shooting.
Police were called out to a disturbance in the 4500 block of Jennifer Court yesterday (Sunday) evening. Prior to their arrival, the suspect, who was wanted on a felony warrant, fled the scene. Officers began searching the area and later observed the suspect get into a vehicle occupied by two other individuals. One of the officers attempted to make a conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but two suspects inside the vehicle fled on foot.
Fort Worth PD’s Air-1 helicopter was able to locate one of the suspects hiding beneath a vehicle in the backyard of a residence near 5200 E. Berry Street. He was taken into custody. Officers continued to search the area for the second suspect who was reportedly armed. Officers quickly located him inside of a vehicle in the backyard. Verbal commands were given to the suspect, but he did not surrender. As officers attempted to break the glass in the vehicle, the suspect “made an overt action placing the officers in fear for their lives.” Three officers responded to this threat with deadly force.
TacMed, or tactical medical, officers provided emergency care to the suspect, but he died on the scene. His identity has not been released.
Crime Scene located a handgun inside the vehicle and evidence supports that the suspect fired the weapon. Testing will be performed on the gun to verify that the evidence located is from the gun collected.
All three officers have been placed on administrative leave, as customary. None of them were injured.
