Tarrant County sheriff: Medical emergency caused head injury to deceased deputy; not a gunshot
Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn has provided an update to the incident last night involving Sgt. Keith Shepherd. The original reports released by police indicated the deputy had been shot, but further information says otherwise.
Sgt. Shepherd was located deceased at this vehicle in the Plaza parking lot. He had sustained major head injuries indicative of a gunshot, which is why the initial call was for an officer shot.
“Sgt. Shepherd had a medical emergency out on that parking lot. It appears he fell and had some superficial trauma to the head, which caused a lot of bleeding.” Sheriff Waybourn says the deputy was seriously injured, but able to get inside of his vehicle where he later passed away. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office says he suffered from a pulmonary embolism.
Continued prayers for the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office.
