Mansfield officer shoots armed man at IHOP

The Mansfield Police Department along with the Texas Rangers are investigating an officer involved shooting early this morning at a Mansfield IHOP restaurant.

According to officials, Mansfield police received reports of an armed man at the IHOP on the Highway 287 feeder road near Debbie Lane around 2:30am this morning. Officers responded to the restaurant, observed the armed male inside the facility, and established a perimeter around the location. Officers reported seeing the man pointing his gun in several different directions as he moved throughout the restaurant.

A Mansfield police officer positioned himself in the rear of the business between the exit point where people were evacuating and the armed suspect. The officer gave multiple commands and the suspect failed to comply. The officer fired on the suspect as he continued to advance with the firearm.

The suspect was shot in the lower torso and transported to a hospital in critical condition.
