20 murders reported in Dallas during August
The Dallas Police Department has released crime reports from the month of August, and homicides offenses are up across the board.
Police logged a total of 20 homicide offenses within the month of August. All 20 have been classified as “murder or non-negligent manslaughter.” 15 homicide offenses were reported in the month of July, accounting for a 33.33% increase in August compared to the month prior. During August of 2018, a total of 16 homicide offenses were logged, meaning an uptick of 25% as compared to August of last year.
Dallas has had a total of 147 homicide offenses from January 1 through August 31. From January 1, 2018 through August 31, 2018 (same period last year), Dallas had a total of 116 homicide offenses. 28 more homicides have occurred during this period in 2019 as compared to last year, accounting for a 23.53% increase.
The central area of Dallas has seen the biggest spike in homicides as compared to last year. There were three (3) homicides in central Dallas in the month of August and a yearly total of 15, up 275% from the same period last year.
Southeast Dallas saw the most activity, logging eight (8) homicide offenses. 30 homicides have been reported in SE Dallas, up 7.14% from the same period last year.
North East Dallas, North Central Dallas, and South Central Dallas all logged an increase in homicide offenses as compared to the same period last year. Homicides in South West Dallas and North West Dallas were down 5.56% and 22% respectively, as compared to the same period last year (Jan – Aug).
