Arlington police shoot and kill armed aggravated assault suspect
The Arlington Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting incident in the 700 block of Thomas Chapel Drive. It occurred on Saturday night at around 8PM.
According to APD, officers responded to an aggravated assault after there were reports that one person had assaulted another with a baseball bat. When officers arrived at the house, the assault victim was able to flee the residence; however, the suspect remained barricaded inside.
Officers attempted to communicate with the barricaded suspect, but he refused to surrender.
At around 8:00PM, the suspect exited the front of the residence and pointed a weapon at officers. Three officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Police say they were called to the house regarding another matter on Friday, a day before the shooting. The suspect killed by police was transported to a mental facility for suicidal thoughts a day prior, but was released home before committing the assault.
Preliminary details do indicate the weapon pointed at officers is a “replica BB gun.”
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
