11-year-old struck by ambulance in Burleson

The Burleson Fire Department says an 11-year-old male was struck and injured by an AMR ambulance running “code”, or lights and sirens, earlier this evening near downtown Burleson.

A preliminary investigation reveals that as the ambulance approached the 300 block of E. Renfro Street with active lights and siren, vehicles pulled out of the way to let the ambulance pass. According to fire officials, the 11-year-old thought they were allowing him to cross the street. That is when he entered into the roadway and was hit by the ambulance.

BFD says the child sustained an injury after the ambulance’s mirror struck his head.

We have no updated word on his condition, but officials say the injuries were not life-threatening.
