Robber in body armor and armed with assault rifle killed by security officer in Dallas

The Dallas Police Department says an adult male wearing body armor and armed with an “assault rifle” (according to police) attempted to rob an Apple store overnight in the 3100 block of Knox Street.

Dallas police responded to the call around 2:30AM. A preliminary investigation of the scene reveals the armed robber made entry into the rear of the store and attempted to disarm a security officer. His attempt failed, and the security officer was able to draw his weapon and fire shots at the suspect.

The suspect was shot and tried to flee the scene, but collapsed in an alleyway. He was pronounced deceased following medical aid at the scene and transport to the hospital.

Police say the security officer is a retired Dallas police officer.

No additional details have been released at this time.
