UPDATE: Driver dies after vehicle crashes into bridge support, catches fire along I20 in Arlington

The Arlington Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that occurred last night around 9:21PM.

As we reported last night, several emergency responders from Arlington FD, PD, and EMS responded to the scene in the westbound lanes of I20 under the New York bridge. It was dispatched that a vehicle crashed, caught fire, and possibly trapped the occupant.

When emergency responders arrived, they found one vehicle had crashed into the bridge support for the New York bridge over I20. Police say the vehicle was in the fast lane when, for an undetermined reason, veered across all lanes of traffic and struck the pillar.

Witnesses pulled over and rescued the driver from the burning wreckage.

Arlington EMS transported the driver and sole occupant to Medical City Arlington where he was pronounced deceased.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner has identified the victim as a 64-year-old male from Arlington.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash.
