Man wielding machete shot and injured by Garland police following disturbance

The Garland Police Department responded to a disturbance involving a man armed with a machete this afternoon around 3:30PM in the area of South Third Street and Freeman Drive.

It was reported that a man was arguing with people, and even swung a machete at a vehicle.

Officers responded and located the man in front of a house on Third Street. They gave commands to drop the machete, but the man did not comply. As officers were trying to get him to drop his weapon, the man began to advance on them, leading one of the officers to fire a shot at the suspect.

The suspect, identified as a 38-year-old man, was transported to the hospital for treatment. His injuries are non-life-threatening. He has been treated and released into police custody at this time, charged with Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant.
