Teenager killed after wrong-way driver hits vehicle head-on along I-45 south of Dallas

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatality accident that occurred early this morning along southbound I-45 south of Ferris in Ellis County.

Just after 4:37AM, multiple emergency responders were called to the scene of a three-vehicle crash on the highway. Officials arrived to find one vehicle overturned and two other vehicles with major damage.

An investigation of the scene reveals a car was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-45 when the driver struck a passenger vehicle head-on. The wrong-way vehicle was then struck by a pickup truck.

The wrong-way driver, identified by police as a 22-year-old woman, was airlifted to Methodist Dallas hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the passenger vehicle has been identified as a 17-year-old juvenile from Waxahachie. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck was not seriously injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
