Driver killed after running red light, colliding with another vehicle on Highway 199 in Lake Worth

The Lake Worth Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that occurred overnight at the intersection of State Highway 199 (Jacksboro Highway) and Boat Club Road.

At around 1:00AM, an SUV was traveling southbound on Boat Club Road, potentially at a high rate of speed, when the driver ran the red light at the Jacksboro Highway intersection and was struck by a westbound van. The impact caused the SUV to spin and hit a traffic light pole.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the van was treated for minor injuries and released.

“Speed is being considered as a contributing factor in the crash,” says Lake Worth PD.

Lake Worth FD and MedStar EMS all responded to the scene as well.

The crash remains under investigation at this time. All lanes were reopened earlier this morning.
