Woman killed after being ejected off highway bridge in Irving crash

The Irving Police Department is investigating a fatality accident that occurred early this morning in the southbound lanes of Loop 12 near Northwest Highway.

Around 4:45AM this morning, a disabled vehicle was stranded in the right lane of travel when it was rear-ended by a second vehicle. Another driver who witnessed the collision got out and attempted to pull the driver of the second vehicle out of her car. During the rescue, a third vehicle slammed into the second vehicle, ejecting the driver who the witness was attempting to pull out.

The driver was ejected off the highway bridge and onto the Elm Form Trinity River creek bed below. Dallas Police Department’s Air-1 helicopter was called to help locate the woman. She was later found and pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.

The victim has been identified as a 29-year-old woman.

All lanes of southbound Loop 12 were closed for several hours this morning while police documented the scene.
