Intoxicated driver hits, seriously injures Irving firefighter working a crash

An Irving firefighter has been hospitalized with “severe injuries” after an intoxicated driver drove into a crash scene overnight along Highway 183 in Irving.

The Irving Police Department says multiple emergency responders were working a crash along the 3100 block of State Highway 183. The crash had temporarily shut down all lanes of the highway. As firefighters and paramedics were tending to the accident, an intoxicated driver traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes crashed into the scene and struck one of the firefighters.

The injured firefighter was transported by his fellow paramedics to Parkland Hospital for treatment of severe injuries.

Irving police quickly arrested the driver, now identified as a 23-year-old female from Arlington, and have charged her with Intoxication Assault.

Information indicates the 30-year-old firefighter is currently in stable condition, but sedated as healthcare workers continue to monitor his progress. He has been with the Irving Fire Department for four and a half years.

“The Irving Police Department is asking everyone to keep the Irving Firefighter and Irving Fire Department in your prayers during this time.”
