Driver failed to stop at sign in fatal Collin County crash, DPS says
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatality accident that occurred last night (Wednesday) at the intersection of State Highway 78 and County Road 825.
Multiple emergency responders from the Blue Ridge VFD, Collin County EMS, and several police were all called to the intersection around 8:00pm after a vehicle and an 18-wheeler collided at the intersection.
DPS officials say the driver of a small vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign, and proceeded onto the highway, failing to yield to the right of way of an 18-wheeler. The 18-wheeler was traveling northbound on Highway 78 and collided with the vehicle, pushing it into the ditch.
The driver of the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt. He was ejected from the vehicle. Bystanders administered live-saving measures before emergency responders arrived, but his injuries were too severe. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. His identity has not been publicly released pending notification of family.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
