Man admits to shooting, killing mother at their south Fort Worth home

The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on Saturday morning at a home in the 1300 block of Royster Road.

At approximately 9:55am on Saturday, Fort Worth police officers were called to a shooting at the given location. When officers arrived, they met with a man sitting outside the home who indicated his mother was injured.

Officers went into the house and located the woman with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics attempted life-saving measures on the woman, but she was pronounced deceased at the house. She has been identified as a 61-year-old woman.

Investigators further questioned the man at the scene, who was determined to be the woman’s son. They both lived at the residence, according to police.

The man told police he and his mother had gotten into a verbal argument earlier that morning. At some point during the argument, he retrieved a handgun from his room. “[He] said his mother began to walk toward him, and then away from him,” police say. He then fired multiple shots.

Police have signed a warrant for the arrest of the man, identified as 21-year-old Calvin Brown.

The incident remains under investigation.
