Federal authorities investigating fatal plane crash near Azle
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating a fatal plane crash that occurred this morning near the Flying Oaks Airfield south of Azle.
At around 9:00am this morning, multiple emergency responders from the Azle Fire Department, Lake Worth Fire Department, and Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office were called to the area of Silver Creek Azle Road and Confederate Park Road after there were reports of a downed plane.
Crews located an aircraft that had crashed near the airport. EMS originally called for two medical helicopters, but they were both disregarded at the Medical Examiner’s Office was requested to the scene. At this time, we can confirm at least one person has died in the crash. There were two people on board the aircraft, according to the FAA.
The FAA says it was a single-engine Aeronca 7AC that crashed.
The NTSB and FAA will release additional information regarding the crash at a later time.
