Dallas firefighter injured while rescuing woman from burning apartment
A Dallas firefighter has been hospitalized with a “lower body injury” after falling from a ladder while rescuing a woman from a burning apartment building.
At around 9:23am this morning, Dallas Fire Rescue was dispatched to the Legends of Lake Highlands Apartments, 11151 Lake Highlands Drive, in northeast Dallas for a fire. Firefighters arrived within minutes and located heavy smoke showing from the building.
Firefighters immediately deployed hose lines to contain the fire. As they were doing so, it was reported that residents were trapped inside.
During the rescue efforts, a Dallas firefighter was assisting a female resident when the firefighter fell off the ladder. The firefighter was transported to a local hospital, but is expected to be OK.
Multiple ambulances were called to the scene for injuries. Two residents were taken to local hospitals for burn injuries. A third resident was treated and released at the scene.
Investigators say the fire originated in one of the apartment unit’s kitchen. The specific cause is still under investigation.
