Swimmer drowns at Joe Pool Lake

The Grand Prairie Police Department is investigating a drowning that occurred on Sunday evening at Joe Pool Lake.
At 5:52pm, multiple emergency responders from the Grand Prairie Police and Fire departments were called to a drowning near the 6800 block of Lake Ridge Parkway.
Grand Prairie’s dive team quickly located the swimmer underwater, rescued him, and transported him to an awaiting ambulance. A Grand Prairie ambulance then transported the swimmer to Mansfield Methodist Hospital in critical condition.
According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital at 12:42am.
The swimmer has been identified as a 26-year-old man from Haltom City. He was not wearing a life jacket.
“GPFD strongly encourages the public to wear a life jacket or an appropriate personal flotation device when near or in the water.”
