UPDATE: Sansom Park officer critically hurt during active shooter training at Forest Hill school

A Sansom Park police officer has been critically injured after sustaining a gunshot wound injury at a Forest Hill active shooter training exercise.

Sansom Park PD and several other agencies were training this afternoon at David K. Sellars Elementary School, 4200 Dorsey Street, when an accidental shooting took place just after 2:00pm. One officer was shot.

CareFlite was called to airlift the injured officer, but MedStar EMS transported by ground ambulance to a local trauma center. She is currently in critical condition at JPS.

Everman PD Chief Spencer says no live rounds were planned to be used during the exercise, but the officer was struck with one. The investigation will determine what type of bullet was involved.

The Texas Rangers is investigating the incident.
