Man running from Garland police falls down embankment, dies

On Tuesday, Garland police officers stopped a vehicle for not displaying registration. During the investigation, the driver sped off and officers engaged in a very brief vehicle pursuit. The officers terminated the pursuit and lost sight of the driver.

A very short time later the driver was seen by a different officer parking his vehicle and getting out on foot. This officer notified dispatch and attempted to locate the driver.

Officers were checking the wooded area and discovered a steep embankment that lead to a creek. At the bottom of the embankment officers located the male subject, suffering from head trauma. It appears the male may have fallen down the embankment while attempting to conceal himself from officers.

Life-saving measures were deployed but the male did not survive.

Officers were not actively chasing the male before he fell from the embankment.

The investigation is ongoing.
