NEW: Driver killed in collision with FWPD officer during police chase

On Thursday, July 6, 2023, shortly after 6:00 pm, officers with the Fort Worth Police Department’s Directed Response Unit attempted to stop a stolen Dodge Challenger by activating their overhead lights and siren; however, the vehicle fled from them. Officers deployed stop sticks immediately and deflated a tire on the suspect vehicle but it continued to evade them. Officers pursued the vehicle and as the pursuit traveled northbound through the intersection of Rosedale St. and Evans Ave., an uninvolved vehicle traveling eastbound collided with a pursuing police Tahoe. The police Tahoe also collided with a second uninvolved vehicle at the intersection. The suspect vehicle continued on and then came to a stop approximately a block away. Officers were able to take both occupants of the suspect vehicle into custody after a short foot pursuit.
The driver of the vehicle that collided with the police Tahoe was ejected from the vehicle. Officers provided medical aid but the driver was unfortunately pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other involved vehicle was treated at the scene. The officer driving the police vehicle that was struck was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
The Traffic Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene and conducted the accident investigation.
