Driver killed in fiery Plano crash

On July 13, 2023, at approximately 10:44 p.m. Plano Police Officers and Fire Department responded to a serious traffic crash in the 3700 block of Preston Road.

The preliminary investigation indicated an SUV and a sedan were traveling southbound on Preston Road.  It is believed the driver of the sedan failed to control his speed and collided into the back of the SUV.  The sedan overcorrected, hit a tree, and caught fire.

Witnesses attempted to get the unconscious driver out of the vehicle, but the damage and fire were too significant.

After the Plano Fire-Rescue put out the fire, it was determined the driver was deceased.

The driver of the other vehicle did not report any injuries.

The Plano Police Traffic Unit is investigating the incident, and speed is believed to be a contributing factor.
