Two shot while riding scooter in Garland

On July 18 at approximately 7:20 pm Garland Police responded to a shooting call in the 3300 block of South Shiloh Road.

Officers arrived and learned that two males were northbound in the 3300 block of South Shiloh Road on a gas-powered scooter. As they proceeded on a green light they were fired upon by unknown suspect(s) in a vehicle. The suspect vehicle fled northbound on South Shiloh Road.

Both men were transported to an area hospital with gunshot wounds. One male was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The victim is identified as a Dallas resident.

Garland Detectives are investigating and speaking with witnesses to determine what led to the shooting. Additional details will be released when available.

6-alarm fire significantly damages Dallas church

Dallas Fire Rescue was able to spare the main sanctuary at the Saintsville Church of God from major damage after a massive fire erupted Tuesday afternoon. Dallas Fire Rescue responded to the Saintsville Church of God at 2200 Marsalis at 1:54 p.m. after reports of a fire.

The first arriving crews found smoke emanating from vents and eaves of the structure. Immediate fire suppression efforts were initiated. The incident quickly escalated to a third alarm at 2:34 pm and fire crews began defensive fire attack tactics.

Air 1 was deployed to assist with monitoring the scene.

South Marsalis between Eastwood and Illinois was shut down for several hours to support fireground operations.

By the time 5 alarms were called, the fire was largely under control with defensive tactics continuing including 6 ladder pipes in the air fighting the fire with a focus on protecting the main sanctuary. Eventually, 6 alarms were called to bring in more manpower due to the extreme heat.

Fire crews able to extinguish the fire. More than 30 apparatus responded along with close to 150 firefighters. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Woman’s body dumped in field near Trinity River and Downtown Dallas

On July 15, 2023, at approximately 9:10 p.m., Dallas Police were dispatched to a field in the 800 block of Brazos Street after a 911 call for a report of human remains.

When officers arrived, they found the body of a woman. 

On July 17, 2023, an autopsy was done by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office and the cause of death was ruled a homicide.

The identity of the woman is unknown.

This is an ongoing investigation documented under case number 128286-2023.

Mother arrested in Munchausen by Proxy case

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help to solve a case of Munchausen by Proxy, also known as medical child abuse.

The abuse has been happening for an unknown amount of time, but Tarrant County investigators believe Jessica Gasser, 27, had multiple unnecessary medical procedures performed on her 3-year-old child.

During this abuse, Gasser sent messages to a friend that she would delete all of her posts on Facebook about her child’s health, including private messages. If you have been in contact with Jessica Gasser on social media, through email or text, please contact Detective Michael Weber at 817-884-3749. In the past, she has gone by the screen name MedicalMamaJess.

She was arrested in Rusk County last week and is being held in the Tarrant County Jail.

NEW: 17-year-old killed in Arlington shooting; suspect arrested

On Sunday, July 16, 2023, at approximately 8:17 p.m., the Arlington Police Department responded to the QT gas station in the 4900 block of Little Road to investigate a reported shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they located a 17-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds inside a car parked near a pump. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

After speaking to witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage, investigators learned the victim and the suspected shooter, 18-year-old Taymour Makarem, got into a verbal argument at the gas station, during which Mr. Makarem pulled out a gun and fired multiple rounds into the victim’s car. He then ran from the scene.

Three others were in the car with the victim at the time. None of them were injured.

Investigators were able to quickly identify Mr. Makarem as the suspected shooter and located him nearby at the intersection of Treepoint Drive and Paces Trail. He was taken into custody without incident.

It appears he and the victim knew each other and have been feuding for some time.

Mr. Makarem was booked into the Arlington City Jail on one count of Murder. His booking photo is attached to this release.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased once next of kin have been notified.

NEW: Red light runner believed to have caused fatal crash in north Fort Worth

On Sunday July 16th, 2023, at 4:53pm, Fort Worth PD, FD, and MedStar EMS units responded to a major accident in the area of 4600 Alliance Gateway Freeway. 

Officers arrived to find a two vehicle accident which left one deceased on scene and three others involved being transported to area hospitals.

Details surrounding the accident are still being investigated, but it is believed that an unidentified vehicle ran a red light causing another vehicle to serve and run into a third.

One of the three individuals is a child, but the condition of all is unknown at this time.

The accident remains under investigation.

Five shot near Fair Park in Dallas

On Sunday, 7/16/2023, at approximately 4:57 am, Dallas Police responded to a shooting near Al Lipscomb Way and Meadow Street.

Police say two female victims were located at the location with gunshot wounds. One victim died at the scene. The other victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Shortly after, three other gunshot wound victims related to this incident arrived at a local hospital.

The incident still an ongoing investigation. No suspect information and no arrests have been made at this time.

Motorcyclist killed in Wise County crash

DPS Troopers are investigating a fatality accident involving a motorcycle that occurred on Saturday, July 15, at around 1:17pm.

Decatur Fire Department, Wise County EMS, and DPS all responded to the scene on southbound Highway 287 at County Road 4228.

Authorities say a vehicle was traveling on County Road 4228 and failed to properly yield to a motorcycle who was traveling southbound on the highway. The vehicle hit the motorcycle, ejecting the rider.

An Air Evac Lifeteam was called to the scene and airlifted the motorcyclist to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as a 47-year-old man from College Station.

The driver of the vehicle, a 43-year-old man from Alvord, was not hurt.

UPDATE: One arrested after fatal shooting in Denton Winco parking lot

Denton PD officers and detectives continue to investigate a shooting that took place in the 2600 block of W. University Thursday evening.

At approximately 8:10 p.m. Thursday, July 13, officers were dispatched to a reported shooting in the parking lot of Winco Foods. Upon arrival officers located one deceased adult male, who had sustained at least one gunshot wound.  

It was quickly determined the shooter had left the scene prior to police arrival, and that there was no ongoing immediate threat to the public. Detectives also learned the male shooter did know the male victim to some degree.

During the investigation, Kendrick Freeney, 23, was arrested for Murder and is currently in the City of Denton Jail.

Detectives have learned that Freeney is the brother of the victim’s girlfriend. Freeney, the victim, and the victim’s girlfriend were in a verbal altercation prior to the shooting.

The shooting remains under investigation.
