15-year-old bicyclist struck, killed at McKinney intersection

At around 5:30am this morning, McKinney firefighters and police officers were called to the intersection of Independence Parkway and George Washington Drive for a crash involving a bicyclist.
Officials say a 15-year-old boy was riding a bicycle to class when he attempted to cross Independence Parkway. A passing vehicle struck him as he crossed.
The driver stopped to render aid, but unfortunately the student was pronounced deceased.
Today was the first day of class for Frisco ISD students. A sad, tragic event on what should be a happy, upbeat day.
“Our hearts go out to everyone involved in this tragedy,” said the McKinney Police Department.
School is back in session for many districts across North Texas. PLEASE remember to SLOW DOWN in school zones, especially when they are active.
