UPDATE: Fourth person dies from injuries sustained in Fort Worth crash

A fourth individual has succumbed to their injuries after a severe crash on Interstate 35W Monday evening.

At 9:09pm Monday evening, Fort Worth Fire Department, Police Department, and MedStar EMS responded to the scene of a multi-vehicle accident on northbound I35W near Ripy Street.

Police say two vehicles were involved in a minor collision and had both pulled over to the left shoulder of the freeway. A third vehicle stopped to assist them. As the individuals exchanged information, an 18-wheeler collided with the vehicles on the shoulder. A second 18-wheeler also collided with the first. A total of five vehicles were involved.

When emergency responders arrived, they located three individuals deceased at the scene. Three others had sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported to local trauma centers. One of those individuals has since died from their injuries.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified two of the victims: a 21-year-old woman who died at the hospital and a 31-year-old woman who died at the scene. The identities of the other two victims have not yet been released.

At around 11:00am Tuesday morning, Fort Worth police closed all northbound lanes of I35W for further investigation into the accident. As of 1:30pm, all lanes had been reopened.

Fort Worth’s Traffic Investigations Unit is handling the investigation.
