Driver killed after 18-wheeler veers into lane along highway in Hill County

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatality accident that occurred along Highway 174 in Hill County yesterday (Monday) morning near the small town of Blum.

At approximately 11:30am, multiple emergency responders were called to the scene of a crash along Highway 174 near County Road 1104 just west of Blum.

A preliminary investigation of the scene reveals an 18-wheeler was traveling southbound on the highway when the driver was forced to swerve into the northbound lane to avoid hitting another 18-wheeler that had slowed to turn left onto County Road 1104. When the 18-wheeler swerved, a northbound vehicle collided with the trailer.

The driver of the northbound vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has been identified as a 38-year-old man from Kopperl. No other injuries were reported.

“Do not drive beyond your limitations. Slowing down gives you more time to react and allows you more time to see what’s ahead,” reminds DPS.
