Update: Multiple Dallas police officers shot in Oak Cliff

Multiple Dallas police officers have been shot in an incident at an Oak Cliff community center.

The incident occurred just before 10:09pm this evening at 907 E. Ledbetter Street.

Dallas officers pursued the suspect onto northbound Loop 12, and later Interstate 35E. The pursuit ended with shots fired by police on northbound I35E in Lewisville. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.

An extensive investigation is underway at the community center, called “For Oak Cliff.” Residents in the area can expect heavy police activity throughout the night.

Here is the official statement from Dallas PD:

On August 29, 2024, at about 10:10 pm, Dallas Police responded to an officer in distress in the 900 block of East Ledbetter Drive. The preliminary investigation determined when officers arrived, they found an officer shot in a marked squad car.

Responding officers exchanged gunfire with a suspect at the scene and two officers were hit in that exchange.

All three officers were taken to local hospitals.

One in stable condition, one in critical condition, and one officer has died from their injuries.

A suspect sped from the scene, and officers pursued the suspect which ended in Lewisville in the 1000 block of Stemmons Freeway.

The preliminary investigation determined the suspect got out of the vehicle with a long gun and was shot by Dallas Police officers and he died at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.

Flags at all city facilities will be flown at half-staff.
