Former Lewisville mayor stabbed, husband killed in assault at Lewisville home

This morning at approximately 3:53am, Lewisville Police Department and Fire Department responded to a report of an assault in progress at a home in the 1000 block of Springwood Drive.

Upon arrival, Lewisville police officers located two adult victims, a man and a woman, suffering from apparent stab wounds. Lewisville firefighters rendered medical aid to both victims who were transported to the hospital. The man was pronounced deceased from his injuries and the woman is in stable condition, police say.

The suspect has been identified by police as the couple’s grandson. He has been booked into Lewisville jail and is presently charged with Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The female victim has been publicly identified by police as current Denton County Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell. She is a prominent public servant who formerly served as Lewisville’s mayor.

The incident remains under investigation.
