Driver critically hurt, passenger killed in crash while evading police, Fort Worth police say
On January 3, 2026, at approximately 2:40am, Fort Worth Police Officers in the Stockyards observed a vehicle driving the wrong way on Exchange Avenue. Due to the traffic infraction and potential danger to the general public, the officers attempted to stop the vehicle.
The occupants of the vehicle failed to comply with the officer(s) commands, made a U-turn, and fled the location. Information about the suspect vehicle was shared with officers in the area.
A few minutes later, a different police officer patrolling in a marked police unit observed the described suspect vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the suspect vehicle fled again, eventually lost control, and crashed into a utility pole near the 1500 block of E 4th Street.
The passenger was extracted from the vehicle but was unresponsive. Officers immediately began to render medical aid; however, the passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the suspect vehicle was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
The incident remains under investigation.
