At around 7:51pm on Tuesday evening, Burleson Fire/EMS and Police responded to a major accident in the 2300 block of S. Burleson Blvd (Interstate 35W feeder road).
When emergency responders arrived, they found a critically injured man laying in the roadway. Burleson EMS transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man as a 69-year-old resident of Burleson.
“Last night, a tragic incident involving a pedestrian fatality on N. Burleson Blvd reminds us how critical it is to stay safe near roadways,” said Burleson PD in a statement on Facebook. They shared the following the safety advice for people to remember:
If you ever find yourself stranded due to a breakdown or flat tire, here are essential safety practices to follow:
Before a Breakdown Happens:
Be Prepared: Keep essential supplies in your vehicle:
– Flashlight (rechargeable or shake-to-charge)
– Bright vest or reflective gear
– Blanket and extra clothes
– Water and non-perishable snacks
– Closed-toed shoes (like an old pair of tennis shoes)
– A charging block for your phone
If Your Vehicle Breaks Down:
Get Off the Road: Move your car as far onto the shoulder as safely possible. Avoid stopping in curves or right after the crest of a hill, which can reduce other drivers’ ability to see you.
Stay in Your Vehicle: If possible, remain in your car and keep your hazard lights on. Keep your seatbelt on. In the event of an accident having a buckled seatbelt can save you life. Leaving your vehicle increases the risk of being hit by passing vehicles. Call for roadside assistance, family, or law enforcement instead of walking for help unless absolutely necessary.
Check for Traffic: If you need to exit your vehicle, check mirrors and windows for passing traffic to ensure it’s safe.
Use Public Resources: Don’t hesitate to contact the Burleson Police Department or roadside assistance. Help is available to keep you safe.
Texas Roadside Assistance Program:
The Texas Roadside Assistance Program offers non-emergency help for stranded motorists. The number, (800) 525-5555, is printed on the back of all Texas driver licenses and ID cards. You can call this number for assistance with:
– Stranded vehicles or car trouble
– Hazardous road conditions
– Debris blocking the roadway
Be Visible:
If you must step outside, wear brightly colored or reflective clothing to increase visibility, especially at night.
Know the Law:
Pedestrians should avoid highways whenever possible for safety. For more details, refer to the Texas pedestrian law: [TX Pedestrian Law].
