Homicide/Shooting Investigation (Arlington)

The Arlington Police Department responded to a major crash in the 800 block of W. Interstate Highway 20 around 5:49 pm on Sunday, June 25, 2017. Responding officers located a white Ford pickup that had lost control and struck a National Tire and Battery sign at 802 W. IH 20. Further investigation revealed that the male driver had received a gunshot wound prior to the crash. There was a female passenger inside the truck during this incident.
It was later determined that the occupants of the pickup truck had possibly been involved in a road rage incident with another motorist on the freeway. Investigators believe that the white pickup had entered the freeway at IH 20 at Cooper and was travelling in the outside lane of IH 20 approaching Matlock. A witness reported that a black 4-door passenger sedan with dark tinted windows had pulled up alongside the pickup truck and fired at least one shot through a rolled down passenger side window. Witnesses believe there were at least two occupants in this black sedan. The black sedan continued traveling eastbound on IH 20 after the incident. Detectives believe that the sedan had silver rims and low profile, possibly after-market wheels.
The 19-year-old driver of the pickup was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The female passenger was also transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries unrelated to the shooting. Detectives are asking anyone who may have observed this incident to contact Homicide Detective Steve Greisbach at 817-459-5325. Tipsters may also remain anonymous by contacting Tarrant County Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS.
