Driver dies in south Arlington crash

On Sunday, December 31, 2023, at approximately 2:04 a.m., the Arlington Police Department responded to the 2200 block of W. Sublett Road to investigate a single-vehicle crash.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the 37-year-old male driver unresponsive inside his vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators believe the man was traveling westbound along Sublett Rd, lost control of his vehicle, went partially off the roadway, and struck a tree. It appears the impact redirected the car into several residential fences, a utility pole, and ultimately a concrete pillar.

There was no one else inside the vehicle and there were no reports of any additional injuries.

Investigators believe speed may have been a factor in the crash.

Dallas police investigating double shooting near Joe Pool Lake

On December 30 at around 5:20pm, Dallas police responded to a shooting in the 6100 block of Mountain Creek Parkway. The dispatched address was the Mountain Creek Branch Library.

When officers arrived on the scene, they located two men shot. Dallas Fire Rescue also responded and pronounced one of the victims deceased at the scene. The other victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

No suspect information has been released.

The investigation is ongoing.

Two people shot at Fort Wort home

On Saturday, December 30th, at around 2:30pm, Fort Worth police responded to a shooting at a home in the 3500 block of Race Street.

When officers arrived, they located two people with gunshot wounds. They were both transported to local hospitals for treatment. Their injuries are non-life-threatening.

The suspect has not been taken into custody.

Police are investigating the incident.

18-year-old arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter after Denton crash

The Denton Police Department has arrested an 18-year-old driver for Intoxication Manslaughter following a fatal Saturday morning crash. 

At 3:16 a.m., an officer observed a Dodge Charger driving with no headlights on and unable to maintain a single lane on southbound I-35E. After the officer activated emergency lights for a traffic stop, the Charger sped up to more than 100 mph and continued to accelerate. About 30 seconds after the attempted traffic stop was initiated, the Charger crashed into the back of a sedan, pushing the vehicle off the interstate and onto the service road near Wind River Lane. 

The initial officer went to the sedan and immediately attempted life-saving measures on the rear passenger, who was later pronounced deceased. His identity will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office pending family notification. The sedan driver and front passenger were transported to the hospital for treatment and have since been released. 

The driver of the Charger was identified as 18-year-old Jonathan Vargas. He sustained minor lacerations when his vehicle flipped on the interstate during the crash. Following an on-scene investigation, Vargas was arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter and Evading Arrest/Detention with Vehicle Causes Serious Bodily Injury or Death. He is currently in the City of Denton Jail with bond not yet set. 

Southbound lanes of I-35E in this area remain closed while the crash investigation continues.

Arlington police respond to shooting at Parks Mall

At 7:30pm Thursday evening, Arlington Police, Fire, and EMS responded to a possible active shooting at the Parks Mall, 3800 S. Cooper Street.

When officers arrived, they found two people injured. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are still investigating the circumstances; however, they can confirm it was not an active shooter, but an isolated incident. A fight between at least two groups of individuals broke out on the escalator near the ice skating rink and shots were fired.

As of 10:30pm, no arrests have been made. Police believe the shooter left the mall.

Officers have conducted primary and secondary sweeps of the mall to ensure all patrons have been escorted out of the building.

We will have additional information when released by officials.

UPDATE: Fort Worth police investigating fatal shooting along I35W as road rage

On Wednesday, December 27, at 6:32am, Fort Worth police officers responded to a shooting along the southbound I35W service road near FM 1187/Rendon Crowley Road.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male shooting victim. The victim was transported by MedStar to a local hospital, but pronounced deceased.

Officers also made contact with the shooter, who remained at the scene. The man is cooperating with police.

This case is being investigated as a road rage shooting. No arrests have been made at this time.

UPDATE: 6 killed, 3 airlifted from Johnson County crash, DPS says

On Tuesday, December 26th, at around 4:00pm, DPS Troopers, Bono VFD, AMR paramedics, and others were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash with injuries on Highway 67 near County Road 1119 not far from the Somervell / Johnson county line.

When Bono VFD arrived on the scene, they found multiple people deceased at the scene and called for three medical helicopters to airlifting surviving victims. Those three individuals were airlifted to Fort Worth trauma centers with serious injuries.

Texas Highway Patrol confirms a total of six people have been pronounced deceased at the scene.

Highway 67 is closed while DPS investigates the crash.

UPDATE:

Texas DPS says their preliminary investigation indicates that a pickup truck occupied by two teen boys was traveling south on Highway 67. The driver of the pickup truck entered the northbound lane in a “no passing” area, and collided head-on with a minivan.

The 17-year-old male driver and 17-year-old male passenger of the pickup truck were transported by air ambulances to a Fort Worth hospital both in critical condition.

The driver and five occupants of the minivan were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver has been identified as a 28-year-old from Irving. The occupants have been identified as a 36-year-old woman, 64-year-old man, 60-year-old woman, 10-year-old boy, and 9-year-old girl, all from Georgia. A surviving occupant in the minivan was airlifted to a Fort Worth hospital with serious injuries.

Texas DPS is working with Georgia State Police to notify proper next of kin for the victims in the minivan.

UPDATE: One killed, others seriously hurt in shooting at south Fort Worth home

On Saturday, December 23rd, at around 11:15pm, a shooting occurred at a house in the 9300 block of Cynthia Court.

Investigators say there was a large gathering at the home. During the party, there was an argument involving several people about a missing item at the residence. The argument escalated outside of the home and several shots were fired.

When paramedics arrived, they determined one of the shooting victims was pronounced deceased at the scene. Three others were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries. There is no update on their conditions.

Homicide detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.

Woman struck, killed by vehicle while waiting for tow truck near DFW Airport

On Thursday, December 21, at 8:58pm, Fort Worth Fire, Police, and MedStar EMS responded to a major accident on the southbound lanes of International Parkway just south of the DFW Airport south exit.

Investigators determined two stranded motorists were outside of their vehicle waiting for a tow truck to arrive when they were struck by a passing vehicle. The driver did not stop to render aid.

One of the individuals was pronounced deceased at the scene. She has been identified as a 57-year-old woman. The condition of the other individual was not released.

Elderly woman killed in Wylie crash

On Wednesday, December 20th, at 1:57 pm, Wylie Police and Fire/EMS responded to the intersection of State Hwy 78 and Eubanks in reference to a major accident.

Upon officers arrival, officers observed two vehicles involved with a total of three occupants. One of them was pronounced deceased at the scene. Wylie Fire and Rescue tended to the surviving occupants and transported them to regional hospitals.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a pickup truck pulling a trailer was traveling eastbound on State Hwy 78. A small SUV traveling westbound on State Hwy 78 turned south to go onto Eubanks when the vehicle was struck by the pickup truck.

An 84-year- old female passenger of the SUV was pronounced deceased as a result of the collision. The female was identified as a Wylie resident.

This crash is currently being investigated by the department’s Accident Investigation Team.
