Child killed, two critically injured after drag-racing crash in Pleasant Grove area of Dallas

Two people were critically injured and a 9-year-old child was killed after a vehicle racing two others crashed into another driver.
Dallas Fire and police personnel responded to the scene just after 7:30pm in the 10700 block of Lake June Road. During the investigation, it was revealed that three vehicles, including a Dodge Charger, a Dodge Challenger, and a Ford Mustang, were drag-racing eastbound on Lake June at a high rate of speed.
As they were racing, the Dodge Challenger collided with a Chevy Impala turning onto Rain Forest Drive from Lake June. The crash caused the Impala to rotate violently, ejecting a young child and seriously injuring two other occupants in the vehicle.
The young child who was ejected was transported to Children’s Dallas, but died. The victim has been identified as a 9-year-old child.
Two other victims were transported to area hospitals in critical condition. One of those victims was a juvenile. The driver of the Impala was not seriously injured.
The driver of the Challenger was transported to the hospital, but later released. The two other racing vehicles fled the scene, but were eventually located by Dallas and Mesquite police officers. The drivers were taken in to be questioned. Charges are pending.
